The Struggle Has Ended

Greg Hewlett passed away on January 17th after nearly eight years of battling colon cancer. While we grieve his loss, we are comforted to know that he is with his Lord.

Date for restarting chemo

I met with Dr. Hoff this afternoon. He thinks I have recovered well and decided I am ready to begin chemo again on Monday (9/13). It will be the same 21-day cycle as I did before, with the IV chemo (irinotecan) on day 1 and the oral chemo (xeloda) twice daily for days 1-14. This cycle will continue as long as the chemo is continuing to shrink the liver tumor. At the point when it seems to be no longer shrinking, we'll do the liver surgery.

Greg & Christine,
We had a great time visiting Carl & Sue last week.
Thanks for all of your updates but most of all thanks for your testimony to the goodness of our Lord Jesus. You are an encouragemnent to everyone that reads your site. Would that all believers see what you see in the brevity of life and the weight of eternity for those that love Him.

Greg, we are so glad to hear that the plan to start chemo is even earlier than anticipated! We continue to pray for you daily (the girls are always asking to pray for you)!
I was able to go the the North Texas Presbytery WIC retreat the weekend before last and heard Sharon Betters speak. Several times during her talks(which dealt a lot with suffering), she referred to a quote that has stuck with me- "My circumstances are a platform for glorifying God."
Whenever I have found myself pondering over this statment, I immediately think of you and am encouraged by your desire to bring glory to God, no matter how difficult the situation may be. As I talk with you and read your posts, I am always amazed by your humility and how you continue to see things from an eternal perspective. Thank you for sharing what God is teaching you and helping us to know how we can better pray for you and Christine. I love you both! Susan

That's great that you can continue and your doctor thinks you are recovering well! We'll be praying for you.
As for the good news, Charles starting babbling "g's" like crazy last week. Every week, there's pretty much a first--this was last week's!
Anyway, this means it's only a matter of time before he can pronounce "Uncle Greg!" :) Although he still has to say "Mama" first.
