Greg Hewlett passed away on January 17th after nearly eight years of battling colon cancer. While we grieve his loss, we are comforted to know that he is with his Lord.

MD Anderson has a system such that you can send an e-message to me (or to Christine via me) while I am an inpatient and the message will get to me in hardcopy form. Click here for the web site. You have to enter my birthdate (02/19/68) and patient # (169996). I assume it works - I'ver never tried.Also, at some point, I will use my laptop to get email - probably later in the week.

Dear Greg,
God has used you as an inspiration to me and to many others. Evidently what you have gone through is a ministry in itself,and your ordeal reminds me of the tribulation endured and the subsequent comfort and confidence that had come upon Paul and Peter as they expressed so assuredly in II Corinthians Ch.1 for Paul and 1st Peter 5:10 for Peter.
"And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast."
Along with the soldiers in Iraq, concerning you; everything / person leading up to your operation, the operation, and subsequent recovery will be in the center of our supplications to our Lord Jesus Christ, the King of Kings for you, who onces came in a lowly manger; and abides with us now forever, and His Holy Spirit and His Words.
We know that His peace, which surpass all reasons will accompany you each step of the way. And the hope we have in Him, and His love for you will decimate the oppressive sense of uncertainty that often times come before the coming tempest. Yet as the pslamist expressed in Ps23, we know you will come through unharmed, for He is your great shepherd, and you are the lamb in His arm.
One thing I realized in the Book of Job is this:
Along with Job, God suffered. God had to endure the heartbreak and incredible blows laid upon His beloved servant. God had to endure the in-evitable doubt and question in Job's mind concerning His goodness, which had to emmerse from the mind of Job. God had to endure seeing His beloved go through mental anguish upon physical suffering. God in silence suffered along with Job. Who understands God's hurt? Who understand God's sorrow?. He saw every detail. He saw it all. Yet, Job did not know God was paying close attention all along, but He was. He saw everything, He heard every word, and read every mind. That has taught me something about the long suffering of God.
Job's greatest reward went far beyond the restoration of His fortune. Not only was God's will done before Satan, Job has beocme such a companion to the suffering saints throughout the ages. Job, along with lamentations and lamentation psalms has brought forth so much freedom to the expression of our emotions, yet inspired us to new heights in realizing His goodness. We can only conclude: God is good.
Last September, I asked you to pray for Christina and Karen, two high school senior girls in the Sunday School class that I have taught one time, their little car got hit by a pickup truck that came across the opposite side of the freeway. After a series of life saving operations, and a month long stay in the hospital, I am most glad to tell you that both girls are now on their feet, back at school, doing great; and loving their Lord.
We are looking forward to praise the Lord greatly on your behalf.
