The Struggle Has Ended

Greg Hewlett passed away on January 17th after nearly eight years of battling colon cancer. While we grieve his loss, we are comforted to know that he is with his Lord.

Time of surgery

Surgery is slated for 7am tomorrow morning at Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas. Dr. Beecherl is the surgeon. I'll keep this NG tube that is currently in my nose until at least Thurs or Fri. The length of stay in the hospital will be determined by how much work is involved in untangling the mess and how quickly the intestines start functioning correctly. My own guess based on previous intestinal surgeries I've had is 5-7 days.

Greg, My thoughts and especially my prayers are with you. It is truely a small world. Dr. Beecherl's father is my father's cousin. We go to their ranch in south Texas about once a year. If you get a chance tell him that your old nurse is Ed Moore's daughter Annette. All of my best, be waiting to hear from you after the surgery.
Love,
Annette (TCA nurse)

Dear Greg and Christine,
I feel like I have personally met you as I have followed the progress of your health challenges since becoming acquainted with Greg's Place. My wife, Marilyn, is a cousin to your dad. She is the daughter of the late Roy and Mabel Porterfield who had resided in Gurley, Ne. many years. Your Great Grandmother, Leoma Hewlettt, had a very special place in our hearts.
Our prayers are with you as both you and your wife meet the challenges God has allowed you to experience. Marilyn, my wife, is now recuperiating from a colon resection caused by a "blocked" intestine. She can identify with the pain you experienced recently.
We will both pray for you and your surgeons as this challenge is undertaken tomorrow. Psalm 41:3 "The Lord will sustain you on your sickbed and restore you from your bed of illness."
God's blessings to both you and your wife.
Marilyn and Verdell Lessman
