Successful Surgery

Just got a call from Greg's dad Jim. The surgery apparently went very well.

It turns out that a hernia was the cause of the blockage - not scar tissue from the original colon surgery as was previously thought.
Dr. Beecherl repaired some (possibly all, your correspondent is not certain) of the hernia, eliminating the cause of the blockage. Also, he found a lot of scar tissue from the original surgery, which could otherwise pose a threat of future blockage, and removed it.
All that messing around in Greg's innards causes a lot of pain in the recovery, and the recovery is further slowed by the fact that Greg finished a round of Avastin just four weeks ago.
Dr. Shapiro was very complimentary of Dr. Beecherl's work.
Greg will be in the hospital for 5-7 days depending on how much the Avastin has impacted his body's ability to heal.

I continue to check in on you frequently through this web site. I hate that you are still having to undergo surgeries and treatments for the cancer. It has just been to long. Bless you!! I am glad to know that you are still fighting and that you still have your since of humor and love for God. It is so encouraging to me how positivly you contiue to write. You are an inspiration to everyone who meets you; your whole family is inspiring. God just is not finished working through you! I hope that your recovery will be routine and quick. I will continue to pray for you, Christine, your parents and sisters. Tell Susan and Julie hello for me. I miss them. Sozis means you get one "free" hernia surgery with every post-operation scar tissue removal? I just hope you settle down and try not to celebrate with Celtics fans too much. Might be how you got the hernia in the first place. Hang in there brother Greg, you're a hero with a body full of medals to prove it.
